Space resources for parents and caregivers
As parents, you have a great influence on the learning, future education and career choices of your children. You have the power to encourage them to always stay curious and spark their interest in space and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Our website is a safe place to start exploring, with free bilingual resources.
Here are some activities to consider:
- Do hands-on space activities at home
- Play digital games
- Colour, create paper models or 3D print
- Get your kids reading about space
- Learn about space using our toolkits
- Read Indigenous stories about the Moon
- Get outside to gaze at the Moon and the night sky (no need to be an astronomy buff to enjoy the beauty of the stars, but here are a few astronomy basics and tips)
- Spot the International Space Station with the naked eye from your backyard
- Watch the northern lights from your home thanks to AuroraMAX
- Watch videos featuring space experts and astronauts (on our website or on YouTube)
- Visit a space exhibition
- Attend a space event (be sure to check regularly, as the list changes over time)
- Listen to space-themed music
- Let your kids decorate their room with cool space posters
- Discover space careers
- Explore Earth using astronaut photos and satellite imagery
- Get your kids and their friends to participate in the Space Apps Challenge held annually in October
If you want to give your kids STEM learning opportunities outside of school, we invite you to visit your local science centre, museum or library. You can enroll them in a youth organization, a space camp or an after-school science, astronomy or coding club.
We encourage you to follow us on social media and subscribe to our newsletter to stay connected.
