Summary of the Privacy Impact Assessment on Mission Advisory Groups

Canadian Space Agency (CSA) Mission Advisory Groups

Description

This Privacy Impact Assessment reflects a regular program activity completed by the CSA to seek out international expertise of missions in which the CSA is the lead. The recruitment of experts is considered routine by the CSA and generally follows a standard information flow. The CSA seeks candidates with a broad spectrum of experience and expertise in scientific fields related to the Mission.

Why a privacy impact assessment was completed

This PIA was completed as there was an institution-specific Personal Information Bank that needed to be de-registered. This program activity had not been assessed in the past. Personal information is collected and used to make administrative decisions that directly affect the applicants.

Additional information

During the assessment, opportunities were identified to improve the notice provided to applicants during the application process, update the reliance on a standard Personal Information Bank and standardize the retention standards and eventual disposition of personal information. In addition, opportunities were identified to strengthen policy instruments for training and breach response purposes.

The CSA will be de-registering an institution-specific PIB, Space Science (PPU 010) and relying on the standard PIB Members of Boards, Committees and Councils (PSU 919) for this collection of personal information.
