CSA astronaut Col. Jeremy Hansen honours Air Cadets in space

Since his recruitment as a Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut in 2009, Colonel Jeremy Hansen wanted to honour the Air Cadet program, which greatly helped shape who he is, in a significant way. On his mission around the Moon, he had the opportunity to do so and even shared a personal anecdote about it. (Credits: Canadian Space Agency, NASA)

Jeremy Hansen: All right. We're just having dinner time, a couple of hundred thousand nautical miles from Earth, and I was just telling the crew this story. I got some things out to take a photo of them up here, and this is my Air Cadet cap brass. And the reason it's significant is one, Air Cadet program is super important to me, significant influence on my life. But also, when I was interviewing to be an astronaut, Dave Williams asked me the question, what would I take with me to space. I had never thought of that as I prepped for my interview, but my answer that just immediately came to me was my Air Cadet cap brass. And here it is, out by the Moon.
