They will launch from Florida on the first crewed test flight of the Artemis program.

The mission’s main goals are to:

evaluate SLS and Orion systems with crew, in deep space

evaluate how Orion flies with astronauts at the controls

perform a flyby around the Moon

 

They will fly thousands of kilometres beyond the Moon,

take photographs of the surface

and will have a breathtaking view of our planet that only 24 humans got to see before them.

 

In total, they will travel over 1,000,000 kilometres in nearly 10 days.

They will come home at 39 times the speed of sound.

before they splash down in the Pacific.
