Space for all: Engaging Canadian youth from all backgrounds in STEM
Creating a little spark and empowering the next generation: that's what the Canadian Space Agency aims to do through a suite of exciting activities and opportunities for youth and educators.
Hear Amanda and Darius, of the West Island Black Community Association, talk about the power of space and the importance of demystifying space careers and having role models for our youth to see themselves in the space field and help shape Canada's future. I want to be…inspired!
Space is definitely a source of inspiration for our kids.
Being able to properly see yourself, like yourself, looking back at the space expert and to visualize yourself in that position, I think that's such a powerful tool.
Using space to interest youth in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, the Canadian Space Agency works with educators and youth organizations across the country to prepare the next generation.
Thanks to key collaborations, we engage young Canadians in space regardless of who they are and where they come from.
Having a door open for students or interns from those spaces is really, really important to help them feel included in the big missions of the world and to feel like they have a place and a voice.
These experiences – such as working with robots, learning about plants – can be really groundbreaking and riveting experiences for them.
I have definitely learned more about space with this project, and I've always been intrigued when I was little about space and what the endless possibilities it has.
The Canadian Space Agency makes sure that space is open to all, and that there is room for everyone to contribute their talent and their ideas.
Because our youth need to be empowered, and because diversity makes us stronger.
