Craters on the Moon

An image of lunar surface craters, half in shadow.

A view of the Moon from the Orion spacecraft. Orientale basin is visible to the right with a dark patch of ancient lava that burst through the Moon's crust in an eruption billions of years ago.

At the 10 o'clock position of the Orientale basin, the two smaller craters – which the Artemis II crew has suggested be named Integrity and Carroll – are visible. (Credit: NASA)
