The Pingo Canadian Landmark seen from space
This composite image from ArcticDEM and the Sentinel-2 constellation highlights the topographic features of the Pingo Canadian Landmark in the Northwest Territories. This site protects rare ice-cored hills (pingos) that rise up to 70 metres above the surrounding coastal Arctic plain.
Satellites are essential for monitoring fragile land formations like the pingos, and for tracking climate change impacts across the Arctic. (Credit: Sentinel-2 and ArcticDEM)
