Anik A1 satellite

Anik ("little brother" in Inuit) is the name of Canadian communications satellites operated by Telesat Canada. Anik A1, launched on November 9, 1972, became the first domestic communications satellite to be placed in orbit. For over 10 years, Anik A1 relayed telephone calls, data and television signals on 12 channels in the 6/4 Ghz frequency range. (Credit: Communications Research Center Canada (CRC))
