Squamish River seen from space
This thermal Landsat 9 satellite image shows the Squamish River in British Columbia, when the temperature was around –10 °C in that area. The river and nearby lakes, which are warmer, appear bright white, contrasting with the colder (darker) land.
The Squamish estuary, where the river flows into Howe Sound, is an ecologically valuable ecosystem, providing habitat for a wide diversity of marine and terrestrial species. (Credits: NASA and USGS, Landsat 9 data processed by Vertex)
