Sunrise Arc – NIRCam

Image of a massive galaxy cluster.

This James Webb Space Telescope image shows the Sunrise Arc, the most strongly magnified galaxy known in the early universe. Inside it, there's the most distant star ever detected, named Earendel, first found by the Hubble Space Telescope. Webb's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) reveals that Earendel is a very hot and extremely bright B-type star. Earendel is visible thanks to Webb’s cutting-edge technology, but also thanks to the gravitational lensing effect.  (Credits: NASA, ESA, Image processing: Zolt G. Levay)
