Colourful image of a supernova remnant, as seen in a diamond shape on a black background.

Cassiopeia A is a supernova remnant located about 11,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cassiopeia. It spans approximately 10 light-years. This image uses data from the James Webb Space Telescope's Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) to reveal Cassiopeia A in a new light.

Webb is an international collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency. (Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, Danny Milisavljevic (Purdue University), Tea Temim (Princeton University), Ilse De Looze (Ghent University), Image processing: Joseph DePasquale (STScI))
