NGC 5584 – Webb NIRCam and Hubble WFC3

Webb and Hubble composite image of a galaxy with bright white core and blue spiral arms.

New observations from James Webb Space Telescope’s NIRCam (Near-Infrared Camera) and Hubble’s WFC3 (Wide Field Camera 3) telescopes reveal the stunning spiral galaxy NGC 5584, situated a staggering 72 million light-years from us. Among NGC 5584’s glowing stars are pulsating stars called Cepheid variables and Type Ia supernovae, a special class of exploding stars.  (Credits: NASA, ESA, CSA, Adam G. Riess (JHU, STScI))
