Canadian Workshop On Micro-penetrator for Planetary Exploration

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is pleased to announce a Workshop on Micro-Penetrator for Planetary Exploration to be held February 2-3, 2012 at the Canadian Space Agency's John H. Chapman Space Centre.

A micro-penetrator could be proposed as an alternative planetary lander technology to rovers for future robotic planetary exploration. It would substantially expand Canada's exploration platform capabilities to include on-demand mission opportunities as "deployable" instruments on orbiters.

You can register on-line before January 24th, 2012.

Bundling up for Protection: The Science of Spacesuits

Cool Science Saturdays

Come meet the CSA team and its partners at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum Saturday, February 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of Winterlude’s Cool Science Saturday!

At our booth, you will learn about spacesuits and the upcoming mission of Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield. In November 2012, Chris will launch aboard a Soyuz spacecraft to reach the International Space Station (ISS) where he will live and work for six months as part of the crew of Expedition 34/35. During the second half of his mission Chris will become the first Canadian Commander of the ISS–a milestone for Canadian space exploration.

CSA’s Jamie Sevigny, Project Manager and former Robotics Instructor, will discuss both topics during special presentations in the Bush Theatre. Come ask your questions!

"A suit tailored for space exploration… and Chris’ World Tour!" - Bilingual presentation followed by a question and answer session at:

  • 10:30-11:30 a.m.

  • 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. ***CSA Astronaut Jeremy Hansen will be joining in by videoconference at 3:00 p.m. to answer your questions!

Take the opportunity to also visit our permanent Living in Space exhibition and the booths of the other Cool Science partners.

The program is free, but regular entry fees apply.

The Conquest of Space in Images

The space age began with the launch of Sputnik. Since then, man has walked on the Moon, robots have stirred the soil on Mars, and probes have scanned the farthest reaches of the Universe. Russia, America, Europe, and Canada embarked on an amazing space adventure. The milestone events on this journey are eloquently presented in stunning photographs in this exhibit, adapted from an original created by France’s space agency, the Centre national d’études spatiales.
