Hello, I'm David Saint-Jacques,
Canadian Space Agency astronaut.
On April 8, 2024, eastern Canada
will witness a total eclipse of the Sun.
Total solar eclipses
are once-in-a-lifetime events.
Solar eclipses happen when
the Moon comes between Earth
and the Sun, casting its
shadow on our planet.
For people who are in the
path of the Moon's shadow,
for a few minutes,
the sky turns as dark as night.
Eclipses have helped scientists
learn more about the Sun,
Earth, and our space environment.
People have been fascinated
by eclipses since the
dawn of time, and today,
they make us want to know more about
space and keep exploring further.
Humanity is heading
back to the Moon
with the Artemis program, and Canada
is part of this great endeavour.
My Canadian friends and colleagues

are members of that team of Moon explorers.
