Movements of the Moon
2021-10-22 – This animation shows the difference between the Moon’s actual movement, in synchronous rotation (on the right), and what would happen if the Moon did not rotate (on the left). From Earth, the near side is always visible during synchronous rotation. (The objects in this animation are not to scale, and Earth’s rotation speed is sped up for the purposes of demonstration.)
