Education

Geoff completed his Ph.D. in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Alberta studying ultrafast microscopy. He continued his studies through an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California Santa Barbara at the Center for Spintronics and Quantum Computing. Current research interests include Mars analogue environments and low latency tele-robotic exploration.

Biography

Geoff Steeves is a physics professor at the University of Victoria, a faculty member at the International Space University and serves on the ISU Academic Council. He has served in various chair roles at the ISU Space Studies Program since 2011. He is a co-founder of the StarAcers science education program (www.staracers.com) and was a top 16 finalist in Canada’s 2008/09 astronaut recruitment campaign. Geoff is a Multi-Engine Instrument rated commercial pilot and class 3 flight instructor. He speaks on his experiences in the Canadian Space Agency 2008/09 Astronaut Recruitment Campaign, on in-space manufacturing and on educating future astronauts.
