An iconic photo, taken in 1968, that changed the world.

This photo inspired 50 years of images of our planet and is credited with helping launch the environmental movement.

It showed Earth as it had never been seen before—fragile and isolated—both insignificant from a cosmic perspective and critical from a human perspective.

Since the 1960s, Canada has participated in efforts to observe Earth from space.
