Canadian students conduct real space mission operations from their school

2016-04-07 – Ruby Sahota, Member of Parliament for Brampton North, and Canadian Space Agency Astronaut Jeremy Hansen were given a tour of the Satellite Remote Mission Operations Centre (RMOC) by students at St. John Paul II Catholic School in Bolton, Ontario. Jeremy Hansen also shared his experiences as an astronaut with 700 students and teachers.

Students will use the RMOC to receive images taken and transmitted by the STMSAT-1 satellite. Orbiting 300 km above the Earth, the satellite will take pictures every 30 seconds and transmit them via radio waves back to the ground. The satellite is the first ever in the world to be designed and built entirely by grade school students. (Credit: Canadian Space Agency)
