Slave River ice cover on April 26, 2015 - RADARSAT-2 product and aerial validation

2015-04-26 - The two images presented here demonstrate how remote sensing data acquired by RADARSAT-2 is validated using aerial observations. The image on the left is a RADARSAT-2 product made with an image acquired on April 26, 2015. The image is treated to show the river ice cover: blue depicts water or the possibility of water on ice, yellow represents non-consolidated or intact ice, and red illustrates consolidated ice. The image on the right is an aerial photograph of the same area on the same date. This picture is used to demonstrate the validity of the data acquired by RADARSAT-2. To illustrate the comparison of the two forms of observation, the same locations are on each image are identified and linked with red arrows.
