Central Africa seen from space

A human crisis of major proportions affected eastern Zaire in November 1996. Canada's Earth-observation satellite RADARSAT provided data night and day, cloudy or clear, that allowed emergency crews to follow the movement of refugees throughout the crisis and facilitated disaster management initiatives.
