Definition: The remains of the death and collapse of an extremely massive star. The gravitational pull of a black hole is so strong that light itself cannot escape. An object that has become so dense that, through the effects of general relativity, its contents are no longer accessible to the outside universe. No light from the surface can escape to the outside, hence the term "black."
