SOAR is a joint partnership program between MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. - Geospatial Services Inc. (MDA-GSI) and the Canadian Government through the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the Natural Resource Canada's Canada Centre for Remote Sensing (CCRS). The program provides access to RADARSAT-2 data for research and testing purposes.
The SOAR program provides an opportunity to explore the enhanced capabilities of RADARSAT-2 and their potential contributions to applications through a loan of limited amounts of RADARSAT-2 data to research projects. The main outcome pursued by the SOAR is to ensure that Canadian stakeholder's benefits, through research and development activities, of the $450M investment made for the development of RADARSAT-2. Now that the satellite is fully operational, Government of Canada would like to develop specific initiatives under the SOAR umbrella.

SOAR-CPT is a Government of Canada initiative supported by the Canadian Space Agency for Canadian provincial and territorial organizations to support scientists in the development of RADARSAT-2 applications and to promote the use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) remote sensing. The initiative requests proposals aiming to sustain and improve current applications that use SAR sensors, develop new applications and also applied research in the context of a specific need.
There is no closing date to submit a proposal to SOAR-CPT and is expected to be available during the lifetime of RADARSAT-2. The evaluation process should take between 4 to 6 weeks and acquisition could begin once the project is accepted. Projects submitted will be evaluated by scientists in Earth Observation from Government of Canada.
In order to submit a proposal, you must complete the following form and a confirmation email will be sent to you. A password will be issued to provide you a secured access to the on-line submission website for full proposals.

SOAR-E is a Government of Canada initiative supported by the Canadian Space Agency and Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, addressed to Canadian educational organizations and research centers, will support scientist in the development of RADARSAT-2 applications and promote the use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) remote sensing to graduate students. The initiative requests proposals aiming at fundamental and applied research towards applications development using new capabilities offered by RADARSAT-2.
There is no closing date to submit a proposal to SOAR-E and is expected to be available during the lifetime of RADARSAT-2. The evaluation process should take between 4 to 6 weeks and acquisition could begin once the project is accepted. Projects submitted will be evaluated by scientists in Earth Observation under the supervision of an Advisory Board from Government of Canada and academia members.
In order to submit a proposal, you must complete the following form and a confirmation email will be sent to you. A password will be issued to provide you a secured access to the on-line submission website for full proposals.
