RADARSAT-1 Data for Research Use (DRU)

DRU

CSA and MDA-GSI, the commercial distributor of RADARSAT-1 data, offer on a limited basis RADARSAT-1 imagery for research purposes at a special price. Canadian and foreign researchers are therefore invited to submit proposals for studies that will lead to an increased use and application of RADARSAT-1 data and data archives. As this program is ongoing, there is no time restriction for submitting proposals.

Details of this research initiative as well as the procedure for proposal preparation and submission can be found in "RADARSAT-1 Data for Research Use" (PDF document).

Data Requirement

For any proposal, the data request may be fulfilled by means of either a new acquisition or through the RADARSAT-1 data archives. The data requirement should include a number of images (maximum of 5), the acquisition period and the beam mode. Data requests for interferometric applications are not applicable within this Program. The use of archive data is however encouraged.

Evaluation of Proposals

The proposals are evaluated from the standpoint of the following elements:

  1. Methodology
  2. Scientific merit
  3. Data requirements
  4. Availability of funding
  5. Partnership
  6. Potential for operational development
  7. Market potential
  8. Promotional value
