STS-113 Mission Images

Images

An image of the International Space Station as it will look like at the end of STS-113. Highlighted in green is the P1 truss after its installation by Canadarm2. The circled image shows one of the three thermal radiators of P1 to be deployed during an ISS stage EVA (spacewalk) after STS-113.

The first part of the P1 truss installation activity on STS-113 has the shuttle Canadarm grappling the P1 truss in the orbiter payload bay.

The second part of the P1 truss installation activity on STS-113 has the shuttle Canadarm lifting the P1 truss out of the orbiter payload bay. The truss is pivoted to avoid shuttle and ISS structures, in preparation for a handoff to Canadarm2.

After receiving the P1 truss from the shuttle Canadarm, Canadarm2, located on the Mobile Base System, proceeds with the installation of the P1 truss on the port side of the S0 truss segment already present on orbit.

STS-113 will be the first mission during which Canada's Mobile Base System will be traveling along the ISS truss segment on the Mobile Transporter. During the translation Canadarm2 will temporarily step off a U.S. Lab base location to observe the translation. The image shows Canadarm2 during its step-off back onto the Mobile Base System releasing its U.S. Lab anchor point.

On flight day 8 of STS-113, Canadarm2 will be supporting the third EVA of the mission by manoeuvring spacewalking astronauts to different assembly areas on the P1 truss segment.
