Mission Overview

Mission STS-111/Flight UF-2, from June 5 to 19, 2002, saw the Canadian Mobile Remote Servicer Base System (MBS) installed on NASA's Mobile Transporter, a second component of the Canadian Mobile Servicing System (MSS). Canadarm2 -- already installed on the Space Station in April 2001 -- will then have the capability to "inchworm" from the U.S. lab and travel along the Station truss to work sites.

This crest illustrates the Mobile Base System, Canada's second contribution to the International Space Station, and commemorates Canada's historic participation in Mission STS-111, Assembly Flight UF2 of the International Space Station.

The Mobile Base System plays a critical role in the construction and maintenance of the Station. Latched atop the Mobile Transporter, it provides a moveable work platform and storage facility and serves as a base for both Canadarm2 and the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator.

The Mobile Base System is a symbol of Canada's commitment to excellence, innovation and the development of space knowledge for the benefit of Canadians and humanity.
