Canadian Snacks for Space
Nothing better than a homemade meal!
Just as we do on Earth, when astronauts in space get together for meals, they talk about their day and tell stories about their homeland through the foods they share.
When Canadian astronauts Julie Payette and Robert Thirsk were in space in 2009, they shared a Canadian meal with their crewmates from around the world. Local foods tell the story of the regions and the cultural diversity of our vast country. This is why we launched the "Canadian Snacks for Space" contest in 2011 so that you could help astronaut Chris Hadfield select some Canadian treats to bring on his upcoming mission.

Of the 150 suggestions received from 39 Canadians, we made a draw to select one winner per item.
