Distance and Tele-Learning Program

Technical Requirements

Distance Learning Workshops

Distance Learning Workshops

Distance Learning workshops are available via whiteboard technology, and synchronous and asynchronous e-learning platforms. Please note that it is the responsibility of the participating school to provide the CSA with access to a virtual classroom as well as the necessary moderators and technical support.

Tele-Learning Workshops

Tele-Learning Workshops

Tele-learning workshops are available via interactive two-way videoconferencing technology using IP (Internet protocol) H.323 standard videoconference equipment or ISDN (integrated services digital network) H.320 standard videoconferencing equipment.

How to connect to CSA with IP (H.323) based systems, & ISDN:

  • IP (H.323) based videoconferencing systems connecting to CSA must have a unique E.164 Alias (4 to 10 numerical digits in length) - commonly used are phone numbers or extensions) and H.323 ID (Alpha Numeric with no spaces, firstname.lastname or room name and number are commonly used).

  • On your Firewall (if there is one in place) the following four (4), outbound ports, must be accessible from your endpoint to CSA, - 1719/UDP, 2776/TCP, 2776/UDP, 2777/UDP. Non Registering sites: also need the following inbound & outbound ports open: 1720/TCP, 5555 to 5574/TCP & 2326 to 2487/UDP.

  • 1st dialling-in option: URI dialling is supported with systems that are H.460 compliant, example: abc123@asc-csa.gc.ca (a DNS server must be configured on the endpoint that is dialling out to CSA), your network must be able to resolve the asc-csa.gc.ca&space.gc.ca domain for the URI dialling option. Your CSA contact person will supply you with the specific dial-in number for your event.

  • 2nd dialling-in option: Firewall Registration: Prior to dialling a specific endpoint (videoconferencing system) at CSA, you must register to our Border Controller, provide your endpoint with a specific E.164 Alias, use Gatekeeper mode, in your systems specific Gatekeeper configuration enter CSA's Border Controller's IP address 142.74.1.28. This will allow your system to register to CSA's Border Controller.

  • You must advise CSA, that you will register to the CSA Boarder Controller. After registration, your CSA contact person will supply you with the specific dial-in number for your event.

  • It will be possible for CSA to dial your system, if your system's IP address is publicly accessible.

  • No other options are available when dialling CSA with IP based videoconferencing systems.

  • See your Network administrator, and refer to your manufacturer's system documentation for the necessary IP & Network configurations.

  • ISDN calls: Direct dial to the CSA endpoint - No special configurations are necessary. Your CSA contact person will supply you with the specific ISDN number for your event.
