How Many Stars?
Counting Stars
This is an experiment you should perform in order to assess the sky conditions in your neighbourhood. From this you can get a good estimate of the extent of light pollution in your neigbourhood.
After you have completed your experiment and calculated the results, check here to find out how good the night sky conditions are in your neighbourhood.
Astronomers use the term "magnitude" to describe the brightness of a star.
Learn more about light pollution, its effects, and how to save energy and money by reducing light pollution.

If you do not have a data card for this experiment you should print out these two pages.
-
Data card, side one;
Instructions.
-
Data Card, side two;
on which you can record your observations and calculate your results.
