Notes to Students

If you are a student (or anyone with a scientific curiosity for that matter!) you may wish to work though these modules on your own. These notes were created to enable you to do this.

Here are some tips to help you work through each section.

  1. Print out a copy of each section so that you can read it at your leisure at a comfortable desk or table.

  2. Read each section carefully. Scientific documents tend to be "content-rich". This means that every sentence usually has something important to say. Reading too quickly might cause you to miss an important point.

  3. Work through the assignments methodically. Do your calculations using a clear, organized format so you can look back (perhaps at a later time) and follow your thinking. Think about each question... questions are often designed to "make a point" or to help you make a surprising discovery for yourself.

  4. Ask for assistance. Use the library. Don't give up if you are stuck on a point. One of life's greatest satisfactions is success earned from the profits of hard work!
